Three experiments. Pick one and you play it instead of the real game.

Hold keeps one tray piece for later. Press and hold a piece to store it — or to take a stored one back. The cost: while a piece is stored, each new tray deals two pieces instead of three, and neither of them overgrows.

Turn rotates a tray piece a quarter clockwise. Tap a piece to turn it. Turning is free; putting a piece down in a different shape from the one you were dealt costs 1, however far you turned it. You earn 2 for clearing three lines at once, and 1 for every 16 overgrown squares your own lines clear. Symmetric shapes do not use up a turn.

Both runs Hold and Turn in one game. They share the tray piece: a tap turns it, a press and hold banks it, and dragging still places it. Everything else is as above — a short tray deals two, and turns are still earned.

A lab run keeps its own best and can never touch your real score.

How the pieces work

Your pieces. Drag one onto the board. Fill a row or column and it clears.

One piece in every tray overgrows. A dashed edge and dots mark which one.

It leaves overgrowth behind. Hold it over the board to see where — the empty squares beside it, never diagonal. It takes up to two, or none if you box it in.

Overgrowth only pays when it clears. Nothing where it sits, 6 a square when a line clears through it.

Two colors, nothing to match. No clock and no lives — a run ends when none of your three pieces will fit.

Arrow keys or WASD move a cursor, 1 to 3 or shift pick up a piece, space or enter puts it down or sets off a charge. i says what is under the cursor, r turns the held piece in the lab, ctrl banks a piece in the lab or puts it back, esc puts the piece down, then the cursor away.
